Marcar was adamant that the world No 9 from Argentina has no plans of cancelling his trip to Thailand for the US$608,500 ATP event which runs between September 25 and October 3 at the Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani.
"I spoke to his agent on Friday and got the confirmation that he will be playing,'' said Marcar, who signed a platinum sponsorship deal worth Bt20 million with Turkish Airlines yesterday.
Del Potro, who made his first appearance in the Thailand Open in 2007, called off his title defence in New York, saying that he was not playing at a desirable level after undergoing wrist surgery early this year.
The towering Argentine will join world No 1 Rafael Nadal, last year's semifinalist Jurgen Melzer of Austria, Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, young gun Ernests Gulbis, former world No 5 Fernando Gonzalez and last year's finalist Viktor Troicki in this year's field.
According to Marcar, one of the three wildcards will be awarded to the country's No 1 player Kittipong Wachiramanowong who has been training in Spain with help from BECTero. However, it is not decided whether one of the remaining cards will be given to former Thai No 1 Danai Udomchoke.
Also, twotime semifinalist Paradorn Sricphaphan will announce his retirement from the sport during the Thailand Open. It is not finalised how the former world No 9 will make his announcement but according to BECTero project manager Stuart MacDonnell, Paradorn's deeds will be featured sometime during the nineday tournament.
Meanwhile, Nadal will be one of the big names to fly first class to Bangkok on Turkish Airlines. The airlines is also offering 14 tickets to Europe for lucky winners who watch the
PTT Thailand Open this year. By filling in a boarding pass, visitors to the Turkish Airlines booth will get a chance to win three sets of two tickets each to one of the 67 destinations that the airlines flies to in Europe.
In addition to semifinal and final tickets, there will be a "Lucky Seat" draw that offers two sets of two tickets each to Europe. The draw will be held on the courtside to announce the winners who will be sitting on the "Lucky Seats"
